Dear Experts,

What is the best way to apply for jobs out of state? Many places seem to not even consider people out of state. Should I leave my address off of my contact information?

July 31, 2009 by sparktalk · View Comments

Dear Experts,

I had a phone interview planned for yesterday at noon. 10 minutes before 12 pm, the interviewer emailed me saying she would be late to call because she just received another phone call. She never called me!

Should I e-mail asking what happened? What should I do?

July 30, 2009 by sparktalk · View Comments

Dear Experts,

I’ve been working at the same business for three years now with no promotions under my belt. I feel this is my time and I’m worthy of a position upgrade and higher salary. I’ve paid my dues.

Now, what’s the smartest way to tell all that to my superior?

T.A.P. Q#226 – Should I Not Put Masters Degree On Resume?

July 30, 2009 by sparktalk · View Comments

Dear Experts,

I have my masters degree at 25 years old, but now am thinking potential employers believe I’m overqualified for the jobs I’m applying for. Should I not put my masters on my resume? I have been job hunting since April with absolutely no luck in obtaining interviews or getting offers.

July 29, 2009 by sparktalk · View Comments

Dear Experts,

I’m headed out on vacation next week. My boss told me today he needs to speak to me at the end of the day on Friday before I leave but wouldn’t specify why. I’ve already gotten everything set up for coverage in my absence, so I all I can think about is that I’m getting let go. I’m freaking out, what can I do?

Upside-down Bell Curve = Opportunity Knocking for Job Seekers

July 29, 2009 by sparktalk · View Comments

By J.T. O’Donnell

I had a great conversation last week with a friend, Laurie Storey-Manseau. She owns an integrated marketing agency that specializes in web design and social media usage in NH. She’s realized what many business owners have recently: We are just about on the other side of the recession’s upside-down bell curve….and that means opportunity is knocking for everyone. Especially, for some job seekers.

You see, everyone is wondering when the recession will end – what really matters is Read more

T.A.P. Q#224 – I Think My Boss Is Jealous Of Me

July 29, 2009 by sparktalk · View Comments

Dear Experts,

I believe my immediate boss at work is jealous of me.

I’ve been working at the same firm for two years now and it always seemed my boss’s superior was more fond of me than him. I’ve noticed it, my co-workers have noticed it and especially my boss has noticed it. I think it’s finally taking a toll on my boss because lately he has been treating me differently (e.g. giving me unimportant and monotonous tasks).

Is there any easy way for me to talk to my boss to see if something is wrong with his and I relationship? I really enjoy my job and don’t want something like this affecting it in a negative way.

Impress the Boss (A Simple Suggestion Will Help Your Career)

July 28, 2009 by sparktalk · View Comments

By J.T. O’Donnell

By now, I don’t need to tell you that impressing your boss with money-saving ideas is a pretty smart career move – especially, in a recession. And well, unless you’ve been living in the wilderness, then you also know that ‘going green’ is no longer a fad, it’s a cultural movement that is here to stay. And yet, the number of businesses who don’t bother to look at green alternatives is still pretty significant. Why? I think most assume it’s going to cost more money. I know that’s what I thought. Until I met John from Proforma Simonetta Freelance… Read more
