Find Out The Best Time For Your Next Career Move Using Astrology

Have you ever looked up at the sky and stars and wondered, “Will someone please answer an important question about my career?”

  • “When will I receive a big promotion?”
  •  “I’m tired of working for other people. When should I start my own business?”
  • “I’m in a dead-end job. When is the best time to find one that’s better?”
  • “I want to be an engineer, investment banker, senior manager, president, or entrepreneur. When will I achieve success?”
  • “I’m in the wrong career. When will I find the career right for me?”

The Secret To Understanding What’s Happening In Your Career

You can find the answer to your questions by knowing which planet is transiting through your 10th House of Career. (Note: To learn where your personal transits are – see the end of this article.)

Transits are “astrological” events that affect every area of your life including your career. A lucky transit may bring a big promotion. Another transit may bring you an exciting new career opportunity. Yet, another transit may lead you to make a career move you’ll regret. Here’s how your career may be affected by the five transiting planets: Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto:

Jupiter Transit: Lucky Time For A Promotion Or A New Career!

If you have this transit in this area of your life, congratulations!  You’ve got a great year ahead of you in your career. In your current job, this is a lucky time to win a promotion by letting employers know you have a desire for greater responsibility where you can produce more success. If you want to find a job, expand your current business, or start a new business, you’ll find new customers ready to buy what you’re selling.

Make sure to be out networking, making contacts, and taking interviews because this is where you’ll hear about great opportunities to advance your career or expand your business.

Saturn Transit: Re-Evaluate Your Job Or Career

During this transit, you’ll harvest the rewards for all your hard work. Now is when your diligence and preparation will pay off and you’ll receive that big promotion.

You may also get feedback from your employer (or customers) about your job performance that will help you realistically evaluate whether you’re doing the work you’re meant to do. In fact, a crisis may occur that will force you to make a change in your career or business. You will now re-evaluate your actions, so you can let go of any unproductive behavior that is interfering with your ability to be successful.

Uranus Transit: Look For Excitement And Freedom In Your Career

During this transit, you’re likely to make radical changes in your career. This is a perfect time to take a career risk that may involve a job re-training program or advanced education in order to prepare for a new career. Now is when you may decide to leave the security of a job to start your own business.

You’re ready to break away from any career that has become dull and routine so that you can pursue one that is fresh and exciting. You will no longer tolerate accepting orders from those in authority who you don’t like or respect. Be prepared for a sudden crisis in your career that disrupts it and forces you make a more liberating change that will provide you new experiences. This can result in either possibility: “Take this job and shove it!” or “Clean out your desk, you’re fired!”

Neptune Transit: A Time Of Service, Confusion, And Deception

This transit is ideal if you’ve ever wanted to fulfill the dream of having a career where you can serve others. Now is the perfect time to reflect on your life’s purpose and to find out what kind of work would give it meaning and value.

Other effects of this transit may cause you to feel confused or disoriented about your career, your life’s purpose and where you’re headed. What’s happening is that your orientation is changing from a desire for your own material success to “how can I be of service to others.”

Be aware that under this influence you may encounter dishonesty and deception with people involved in your career. Because Neptune’s influence can bring misunderstandings in communication, trust your intuition. If you notice any unusual interactions with people, confront them diplomatically about what has occurred.

Pluto Transit: Transform Your Career And Fulfill Your Ambition

During this transit, you’ll be intensely concerned with your life’s purpose. You’re drawn to a career where you can improve people’s lives. If you’ve been in a job that doesn’t seem to matter and isn’t satisfying, this is the perfect time to make a radical change and pursue a new career.

Of course, if you aren’t clear about your ambitions and what you want to achieve in your career, this may be a lengthy period in your life when you’ll change jobs often on your path to discovering the work you’ll ultimately do.

The positive energies of this transit give you drive, ambition, and strong will to achieve your goals. This can be when you assume authority, receive honors, recognition, and even become famous. Many powerful politicians, generals, corporate presidents, and show business personalities reach the pinnacle of their success during this transit.

  1. I am an MBA from a premium Business School of India. I came to this site after searching for astrological signs for career progression. Indeed am happy that the western world is also looking up to astrology and that too a successful professional like Larry using this is heartening.

Astrology is a serious subject and definitely ridiculed by people who have no idea about astrology nor do they have any idea about what is takes to understand astrology. So naysayers apart.. keep up the good work Larry!

    • Gaurav all 5 outer planets move through each of the Houses over the years. It is possible (as in your case) that NO planets are in your 10th House right now. (Although in 2 years Jupiter will be in your 10h House). The good news is that a transit may be affecting your 10th of Career anyway. But you will need an astrologer to calculate your other transits to see if your 10th House is being affected — positively or negatively.

  4. What a fascinating article on using astrology to advance your career! Whether you believe in astrology or not, it really doesn’t matter. A smart pragmatist uses whatever advice that works! There are a lot of career coaches out there giving lots of conventional wisdom to their clients. But Larry Schwimmer has an edge on all of them with his unique astrological approach to career counseling. Considering that he’s a successful businessman who has written several business books (astrology-free), I say let’s check out what he advises using astrology with your personal chart. You’d have to be from another planet (pun intended) not to have noticed how competitive the job market is right now, so why not try a new approach and see for yourself if it works to help you discover your best career strategy. Schwimmer’s Transit Calculator is so easy to use, anyone (even an adult) can figure out their individual transits and look them up in the book. The proof is in the pudding, so to speak, or maybe in the stars, but if it gives you some secret insight into your astrological “weather report,” why not give it a try? (In the privacy of your own home, nobody has to even know you’re doing it!)

  5. Enjoyed this article on using astrology for my next career move (especially the free transit calculator). I’ve always been curious to learn more about astrology. This article really helps to explain the experiences I’ve been having in my career recently. Also, I’m glad to see that you’ve found an astrologer who has the impressive business background that Schwimmer has. It’s clear he can relate well to business and professional people. I’ve mentioned this article to several colleagues who I know will be interested in this topic as well. I’ll be looking forward to reading about what else Schwimmer has to say in future articles on your site. My thanks to Careerealism for introducing me to some new information that’s definitely thought-provoking.

  6. Astrology? Seriously?

Whatever credibility careerealism had is shot. If they’ll publish this, they’ll publish anything. I’m unsubscribing.

When someone finds any link between astrology and reality I’m sure it will be big news and we’ll all hear about it (don’t hold your breath). Until then, it’s best ignored as a waste of time.

  7. I really enjoyed Mr. Schwimmer’s article on using astrology to understand what might be happening in my career. I was shocked to read the comment from Theodoros. I found his comments offensive and narrow-minded. I would like to say to you, Theodoros: “Who are you to decide what article topic is serious and what is not? Or, to condemn others who might not believe as you do about astrology. Shame on you — for your haughty, arrogant attitude.” I’ve been a fan of Careerealism for a few years. And, I applaud them for “stepping out of the box” with Schwimmer’s interesting article. It’s a refreshing break from the usual articles on resume writing, interviewing techniques, etc. This article gives readers a different tool to use for career success. I hope that Schwimmer writes some other articles for this site in the future.

  8. Kudos to for offering an alternative approach forum by including an Astrology article in their repertoire! There are many of us readers out here who are open and evolved enough to consider another perspective (astrology and others) as we job search or ponder a career move. After all, competing for jobs in these economic times also involves open-mindedness and flexibility and this type of article provides just the perfect exercise to stretch our wings a bit. I’ve been fortunate to experience a rewarding career as an attorney for over 17 years, yet lately asked myself if it is time to make a course change that would enhance my quality of life and purpose. Mr. Schwimmer’s article touches on topics such as timing and change in the individual’s working world and merely asks his readers to consider an different method of counsel, plus he offers a clever tool (his transit calculator) for personalizing this advice so we can read about what it means for us individually. Why not be open and positive towards another morsel of insight that might propel you towards scoring a perfect career?? After reading hundreds of submitted articles that touch on the same traditional advice topics such as resumes, interviews and work place issues, I enjoyed a fresh topic that was out of the ho-hum box.

    • Thanks for your perspective Rachel and finding value in my article. In my 20s and 30s I had a traditional MBA background, eventually working for companies like Gillette and Nabisco. In those days, I was skeptical of astrology. Once I learned about it and consulted with an astrologer, my whole world opened up to new possibilities. My ignorance of astrology was replaced with understanding of how it could help me make positive career moves. I used the advice of my astrologer in a positive way. It lead me to a very successful career at Smith-Barney in mergers and acquisitions. I love working with (even skeptical) business people to show them how astrology can be used as an important tool to achieve career success.

  9. I thought this was a serious site for serious people. Mentioning astrology is a rediculous thing to do. People must be very naive to believe in astrology..Shame on you, Careerealism.

  10. I tried the transit calculator and it does not show any planet transiting through the 10th house!
How do I find it out?

    • Dear CmM,
It’s possible that none of the 5 transiting planets in your birth chart are in your 10th House of Career at this time. The focus on this article is for those people that have one of the five in their 10th House.

There may be other career activity in your birth chart that will impact on your career or work. But I would need to look specifically at your birth chart to know. Feel free to contact me at if you like.

      Regards, Larry Schwimmer

  11. I really enjoyed this article on “Finding Out the Best Time for Your Next Career Move Using Astrology.” I want to commend Careerealism for being creative enough to post an article that uses an original approach to making a successful career move. Timing is everything, so I think Larry Schwimmer makes a great point. I’ve had a conventional business education (getting my MBA from Harvard). I’ve never been to an astrologer, but I’m thinking it might be time to do so. These are competitive times in the executive labor market. I’m looking for an edge over my competition. I think the Transit calculator discussed in the article is a clever idea. I plan to use it.

  12. Are you kidding me? At first I thought Astrology was going to be a metaphor for something and a humorous segway to the meat of the article. But no, this really is about astrology.

    • Hi Ed,
Yes…it’s showing “open-minded” people how astrology can be used in a practical way to support their career efforts. There are a lot of smart people who’ve used astrology as a tool to understand their personalities and pick fortunate timing for their decisions. President Ronald Reagan (as quoted by his chief of staff, Don Regan, former President of Merrill Lynch) – made all his decisions using astrology. He did pretty well as President if you recall.

So, Ed…climb aboard the bus :) Use it and you may begin to see its value. Good Luck.

      Best Regards, Larry Schwimmer

    • Hi,
The point of this story is that your personal astrology can give you insight as to the best timing to make career moves.

There are many people who prepare and work hard to find the right job but at a time when they’re not likely to meet with success. This article is meant to bring some awareness to what else may be going on as they search for the right career opportunity. Best, Larry Schwimmer

    • Hi Matt,
I didn’t understand your comment? What are you referring to when you say, “this is the downside to guest posts?” Where is the downside?

There are many people who prepare well for getting a job; taking scores of interviews and get no results. The upside of this article is considering that other factors can influence job search success.

      Best Regards, Larry Schwimmer
