Dear J.T. & Dale: I’ve been on three separate interviews in the past month where the hiring manager asked me, “What’s your greatest weakness?” I didn’t get any of the jobs, and I think it’s because of the way I answered that question. I was completely honest and told them I have a low tolerance for ignorance and sometimes show my frustration when co-workers make stupid mistakes. Do you think I should answer this differently? — Rae Read more

10 Things Recruiters Won’t Tell You (But I Will!)

August 10, 2010 by sparktalk · View Comments

By CAREEREALISM Founder, J.T. O’Donnell

Textbook Advice for What to Wear to an Interview

July 26, 2010 by sparktalk · View Comments

By Marky Stein

Recently, I was headed out to a fundraising event when, quite innocently, my 6 year-old asked me,

“Mom, why don’t the sick kids just wish to get better?” Read more

Dear J.T. & Dale: I recently went through a series of interviews and thought I had the job till I got a voice mail stating that while I was wonderful, the department had decided to go with someone they’d “worked with previously.” She also said that perhaps I was a little overqualified. OK, I’m out of college less than a year — how could I be overqualified? During the interviews, I did stress I like to work hard and feel a sense of accomplishment.
