3 Smart Ways To Escape Your Life-Sucking Job

3 Smart Ways To Escape Your Life-Sucking Job

Do you feel like you lose a little bit of your soul every day you go to work? Like your job is literally sucking the life out of you… And turning you into a real life zombie? All you want to do is get out of there - but then what would you do? Where would you go? This is an incredibly tough position to be in. The good news? You're not the only one. And there is a way out… as well as a better job waiting for you. You just need to know where to look. (Hint: there's a helpful resource at the bottom of this article that'll get you started)

You Don't Have To Suffer Anymore

It's true: many companies out there treat their employees more like human resources than human beings. It's been that way for a long time, and for many people… it may continue to be that way for a while. But it doesn't have to be that way for you. Here's a little piece of wisdom that changed my life, and might just change yours too: “People will treat you how you allow them to treat you." If you're not being treated fairly, or you feel like you're giving too much - without being rewarded or having the work/life balance you desire.... Then you basically have two options: You can change it. Or you can accept it.

3 Smart Ways To Escape Your Life-Sucking Job

Either way, you have the power, so let's get into the three smart ways to escape your life-sucking job.

1. Improve Your Current Situation

Like I mentioned, you have a choice. And one smart choice you have is to focus on making your current situation better. You may need the income, stability, or location of your job… or it may just be easier to find a way to improve your career vs. finding something else. You could inquire about changing departments, changing your role, working with different people - or even ask for a promotion depending on your situation. There are a lot of things you can do depending on where you're at and what the issue is - and a couple of great questions to ask yourself to get clarity on this are: What would you attempt to do if you knew you could not fail? And… What if I do nothing? So, check in with yourself using those questions, and then take action.

2. Find A New Temp Job To Relieve The Pain

When you've got to go, you've got to go. A great indicator of this is a nagging voice in your head over weeks or months telling you that you deserve better… that you can do more… That you can fulfill your dreams. If it makes sense for you and you need to get out now - you can always find another job… any job that will pay the bills and buy you some time to figure out what you really want to do. New positions are always exciting, and even though it may not be what you were born for - it may give you the room and opportunity to discover the next great thing for you.

3. Get A GameChanging Job

Here's where the real win is... getting a job with an organization like those on the GameChangers 500 - which is a list of the world's top purpose-driven companies.
