Poll: Are Flats Strutting Ahead of Heels at the Office?
Heels have always been a classic and professional look for women, however, it appears that women are getting a little fed up with the fierce shoe. According to an article in Business Insider, flats are making their way into workplace - one step at a time. Flats, which were not traditionally worn very often in the office by women, are now being promoted as the finishing touch to a polished and professional outfit. Why? Perhaps it's because heel-wearers are getting tired of sore, achy feet when they get home from work. According to an article in the Huffington Post, walking in heels for long periods of time causes health problems. Flats, however, are generally much more comfortable to wear for extended amounts of time. Not only can a pair of sky-high heels be uncomfortable, but some women believe that wearing heels is a negative thing because they highlight a woman's legs and butt. A poll on the TODAY Show in 2009 found that 49% of respondents felt heels "objectify women as mere sex objects." However, not everything about heels is bad. Wearing a pair of stylish pumps not only makes women look taller and thinner, but they also give some women a little bit of a confidence boost. Some women claim that wearing these classic shoes makes them feel more empowered and professional. What do you think? Which one do you love wearing at the office? Or does it matter?
