5 Tips For Staying Sane During The Holidays

The holidays – the most wonderful time of the year! But also the most stressful. Between fighting the crowds, hustling at work, scheduling holiday events, and making tasty treats, December can be a crazy time. Related: 5 Ways To Manage Work Stress (And Have Fun Doing It!) But how can you stay sane during the holidays? Here are five tips:

1. Make room for “Me Time.”

Make sure you get at least 30 minutes of “Me Time” each day. Everyone needs time to decompress and do their own thing. You give so much of your time to others; make sure you save some of it for yourself. Tip: If you have a hard time making time for yourself, physically block off time in your calendar. That way, you won’t schedule anything for that time of the day.

2. Unplug.

Take a vacation from your phone, tablet, and TV – even if it’s just during dinner. You don’t need to be connected 24/7.

3. Stay hydrated.

It can be easy to forget to drink water during the craziness of the holidays. You’ve got other things on your mind: things to buy, people to see, things to make. However, lack of hydration can result in fatigue, which makes doing all of those important things *that* much harder to do. To counter this, keep a water bottle with you at all times and sip on it throughout the day.

4. Be active.

Make an effort to exercise each day, even if it’s for just 20-30 minutes before work. You’ll feel great, energized, and happy thanks to those feisty little endorphins!

5. Get enough sleep.

My mom always tells me, “When you’re exhausted, the world looks black;” meaning, when you’re exhausted and out of gas, you’re going to have a very hard time seeing the bright side of situations. When you’re pooped, it isn’t fun for anyone (especially you!). Make sure you get enough sleep – even if that means taking a 20 minute power nap during the day. You’ll wake up refreshed and clear-headed. #RestYourselfOrWreckYourself Do YOU have any tips for staying sane during the holidays? I'd love to know!
